Indigenous Peoples International Day
of the World’s
Indigenous Peoples
Today, and all days, we honour and celebrate Indigenous nations across the globe.
Aritzia acknowledges that we operate on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Nations — xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh).
We’re committed to supporting Indigenous peoples through informed allyship, internship opportunities, community partnerships and activist spotlights — this year, we’re excited to feature Willow Allen and Kara Smith.

Willow Allen
Willow is an Inuvialuk from Canada’s Western Arctic. She’s
a model, influencer and advocate for Indigenous
peoples. She’s here to share her culture, a day in her life,
and to give advice to those who want a deeper connection
to their identity.
“For Indigenous Peoples Day, my community always comes
together outdoors and has a feast of traditional foods. One
of my favourite meals is homemade caribou soup and
bannock.”
“My favourite thing about my culture is the connectedness
to everything and each other. Our families and
communities are so close. When we hunt, we share with
each other. We are connected to the land and have a great
respect for it and all it provides us.”
“What I love about living in the Arctic is that life, every day,
feels rewarding. There is so much purpose in our cultural
way of life.”
“Learn as much as you can, connect with family members,
community members. Listen to stories. Learn the
traditional practices of your culture so you can pass them
down. Remember and reclaim what was taken and
embrace that part of you to the fullest.”
“It brings me so much joy to see programs that teach kids
about our culture and bring them on the land. I think we’re
heading in the right direction.”
Kara Roselle Smith
Kara is an Afro-Indigenous creator who aims to bring
healing and reparations to her ancestors and build a better
future for generations to come.
“I celebrate International Day of the World’s Indigenous
Peoples by living as I do every day. My very existence is
enough.”

“Self-care looks like saying no. It looks like feeling my
emotions. It looks like advocating for myself.”
“My Ma always said that if I used my voice people would listen.”
“What I hope for the future of my community is that we
learn how to survive in a sustainable way. That we keep our
joy throughout the process. That we keep love in our hearts
throughout the journey — for ourselves and others.”
