the new stedman coat

This is my second review of this coat. I had an ‘original’ Stedman, which was poorly constructed and made of cheap wool. It had no longevity over one season. Upon reviewing this product, Aritzia exchanged for a ‘new’ Stedman Coat. This version is also TERRIBLE. This material, collects SO much lint, and is a kind of ‘scratchy’ wool, not of the same texture as the other. The same signs of wear after one season are there, and shouldn’t be for a coat of this cost. I wouldn’t buy another one, and I wouldn’t even accept exchange for another one at this point. VERY Dissapointing, as Inlive the cut and style of this coat. I can’t say that I would consider purchasing a wool coat from Arirzia again. I’ll shop a thrift store, and find a coat that was made with quality fibres, 20 years old, and STILL in better condition than this one-season wonder. Save your money.

The first stedman coat I ordered was the gray one. I ordered it just a few years ago and truly love the weight and fit of the original gray coat. Recently, I ordered the greenish one and I am disappointed in this coat. For some reason, it has a strange smell and seems much bigger than the original stedman I purchased. Since I bought it on sale I am unable to return it.

Gorgeous design and cut, and the quality is absolutely there. I got a limited edition heather almond that I think should be sold on the regular, and the colour is beautiful. The only thing is I don't believe that it's actually warm up to -10. Hits at the calf on my height.

Beautiful classic wool coat.

I got the coat in heather almond in XXS. Surprisingly the color looks super nice in person. It's a feminine color for spring and fall. It doesn't fit too tight around arms/shoulders. Fits true to size.

I love how I can effortlessly style this with my outfits to work, errands or special occasions. I’m 5’2 1/2” and this is the perfect length for me. Love the fit!

This coat sucks, furr everywhere, i wasted my money

The stedman coat fits nicely but unfortunately the material feels thin, poorly designed, and is badly tailored – not the quality one expects when paying $400 for a coat. The wool easily wrinkles and is much lighter than the wools coat Aritzia sold a few years ago. The seam of the sleeve ripped within 2 wears. Despite the nice fit the quality is terrible.

Usually a medium but should have purchased a small as it is a bit too oversized looking for the style I like better. Beautiful coat though and can’t wait to style a small.

I’m normally a size small but ordered 2XS in this jacket for a more sleek fitted look. There is still lots of room in it for me.

Good quality and service

Feels like it’s made of cardboard. I was truly stunned to receive something this poor. Can’t imagine it provides any warmth. Only bought a few items from this store, but this will be the last.

I was stalking this coat for a trip to Paris for a while and had really high hopes. It was delivered super quickly and looked great on me. I was psyched to wear it on my 10 day trip. Unfortunately, it did not hold up well in the 30-40 degrees temps. The coat is much thinner than I had expected and definitely not as heavy as was described on the Aritzia site. It’s good for layering because it’s oversized but even with several layers it didn’t keep me very warm, even on the 45-50 degree days. The other disappointment was that on the 3rd day of the trip the outside button popped off into the streets of Paris. I had to rely on the inside button and hold the coat closed the rest of the trip. I didn’t think to pack the extra buttons that were provided with the coat. Overall I cannot recommend the coat if your goal is to stay warm, if you don’t mind being cold and just want to look cute, go for it!

Yes I would recommend

I’m usually a S-M depending on the fit and I bought this coat to be oversized, I’m 140/5’2-3 and it’s a nice oversized fit and longer length for me. Really nice heavy wool mix and warm. Lovely coat will always love all the Aritzia coats.

Fit is slightly oversized, it has wide arm holes and sleeves which is so nice for movement

I love the fit and details of this coat. It’s beautifully designed. My biggest complaint is that it is not very warm, and for the price I feel it should be more insulating and cozy. I live in the PNW, and we can get some very cold winters. Very easy to layer with a thin sweater or throw on quickly though. The fit is true to size, and overall the design is nice.

I purchased the New Stedman coat in black. I was looking for a classic, tailored wool coat that I could dress up or down. I love the quality and simplicity of this coat. I purchased the Only Coat in camel last year and while I love that style and fit as well, I preferred the Stedman's more tailored fit in the black color. It was true to size. I am usually a size Large and that's what I bought. (In the Only Coat I take a size Medium.)

Really love this coat, perfect wardrobe essential and have been wanting one forever. I tried both the ‘New’ Stedman and Stedman versions - preferred the ‘New’ style, material is softer and less itchy, and fit is more tailored specifically in the sleeves, the Stedman sleeves were very wide. I’m always in between a medium and large with Aritzia so it differs with every item which size/fit I prefer. I used the size guide and it suggested large so that’s what I originally ordered but it was huge on me, specifically too wide in the shoulders. So I re-ordered in medium and it was perfect. I am 5’9 170 pounds for reference.
